Your Destination

Say hello to Milan, the second-largest city in Italy and the country鈥檚 unofficial fashion capital. Home to some of Italy鈥檚 major fashion brands, a booming wine industry, the oldest shopping center in the world (the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II), and a thriving international student community, there is plenty to experience and explore in the cosmopolitan city of Milan.

When you study abroad in Milan, you call the Lombardy region of northern Italy home. Here, you鈥檒l have every opportunity to indulge in one of the canal-side caf茅s or restaurants in the Navigli District, explore the Sforzesco Castle to discover the city鈥檚 history, and much more while immersing yourself in the local culture.

黑料网911wants all our students to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad. Local 黑料网911staff have provided details about conditions and cultural attitudes that students with specific identities might encounter in Milan.

Projects

A for-credit internship (in English or in Italian) allows students the opportunity to gain practical work experience in a local company within a variety of industry sectors. In addition to the on-site business experience, students participating in an internship program have a weekly classroom component, which provides academic support to their practical experience.

Directed Independent Research is for qualified students who have demonstrated academic rigor and curiosity toward a particular research topic. Independent research is for credit, and topics will be approved by the 黑料网911Milan Director and home institution and must reflect a topic that is relevant to Italy.

Academic Culture

黑料网911courses are typically delivered in U.S. style, with carefully monitored attendance, regular assignments and exams, and participation all being important factors in grading. Local university classes can involve less guidance than U.S. students are accustomed to; syllabi can be less detailed and there can be fewer assessments.

ASU Courses: You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. Some are earning their degrees entirely online, while others, like you, are supplementing their education with an online course. You鈥檒l receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online. Most ASU online courses are asynchronous, meaning there are no set log-in times, but make sure to verify this before the add/drop deadline in case you want to make a change.

Class Format

黑料网911courses are with 黑料网911students only. Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday. Most courses combine lectures with local field trips and excursions to help students gain a better understanding of the local culture.

Universit脿 Cattolica del Sacro Cuore classes can be scheduled Monday through Friday. This host institution offers an 鈥淚nternational Curriculum鈥 in English with international students.

ASU online courses meet in 鈥渟essions鈥 that are 7.5 weeks long in semesters and 6 weeks long in the summer, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other 黑料网911courses begin or end. You鈥檒l need a standard PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer with a download speed higher than 25 Mbps, as well as access to email, productivity software like Microsoft Office and other applications needed to perform a variety of educational functions. Most course materials you will need are available online. Since you are working mostly or entirely asynchronously, you鈥檙e given deadlines for your assignments by your instructor or in your syllabus, but you can work at your own pace within these due dates. Most instructors suggest a recommended pace to optimize your learning, but you have the flexibility to complete your ASU courses while pursuing your studies at your 黑料网911location.

Grading

For 黑料网911classes, Students should expect to have daily homework assignments and continuous assessments. Class attendance is mandatory, and absences affect final grades.

At Universit脿 Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, students are typically graded on a midterm, a final exam, and class participation. Attendance to class is required, and absences affect final grades.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. As a U.S. institution of higher education, the grading practices should be familiar to any 黑料网911student. ASU awards grades of "A+," "A," "A-," "B+," " B," "B-," "C+," "C," "D," or "E.鈥 鈥淧ass/fail鈥 or 鈥淎udit鈥 is not allowed for 黑料网911students. Please see the 黑料网911Academic Manual for Students for more information about your grades.
