Overview

Take your studies to Rome where your time in Italy’s capital will quickly become filled with strolling narrow, cobble-stoned streets, appreciating century-old buildings, and immersing yourself in the local culture. Designed for students looking to gain an international perspective on business, the Business + Culture program is an incredible opportunity to live and learn in The Eternal City while earning credits toward your degree.

When class is in session, you’ll have the opportunity to enroll in courses at CIEE’s renowned partner institution, Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS), which is known for its prestigious business programs. In addition to learning at LUISS, you’ll choose from a wide range of courses at ºÚÁÏÍø911Rome, including business topics and optional internship opportunities.

Outside the classroom, you’ll have every opportunity to appreciate the program’s emphasis on “culture†by immersing yourself in the local community. From participating in co-curricular activities to experiencing Italian culture firsthand, discover for yourself why Rome – and its numerous startups and multinational corporations – make this the ideal location to study business.

Your Destination

Rome is simply a one-of-a-kind destination. Once the center of Western civilization, and with a history spanning almost 3,000 years, Rome houses some of the world’s most-visited attractions. It also includes Vatican City, an independent country within Rome’s boundaries and the seat of the Pope, not to mention the home to the Vatican Museums, including the Sistine Chapel. Thanks to its unparalleled beauty, Rome repeatedly hosts international movie productions – more recently for “The House of Gucci,†the upcoming “Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning,†and Angelina Jolie’s “Without Blood.†

ºÚÁÏÍø911Rome occupies the main floor of the prestigious Palazzo Capizucchi and it is a short walk from some of the main landmarks of the city, such as the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain, and the Spanish Steps.

ºÚÁÏÍø911wants all our students to feel welcomed, supported, and empowered to succeed while studying abroad. Local ºÚÁÏÍø911staff have provided details about conditions and cultural attitudes that students with specific identities might encounter in Rome.

Libera Università Internazionale degli Studi Sociali (LUISS) is an independent, international university that focuses on the following disciplines: Economics and Finance, Business and Management, Law, and Political Science. Fall exams at LUISS may extend through the end of December, and Spring exams at LUISS may extend through the end of May. Students must remain on-location until all assessments are complete. Students should expect to have daily homework assignments and weekly quizzes. The academic culture in Italy is more formal than in the U.S. and more emphasis is placed on oral skills.

Class Format

Most university courses are lecture-based with no excursions; they might have some guest speakers.

ºÚÁÏÍø911classes are small with typically no more than 25 students per class, and they emphasize communication and work in small groups. Instruction is interactive and dynamic, and courses include field trips and guest speakers.

Grading

Students should expect to have daily homework assignments and weekly quizzes. A greater emphasis is placed on oral presentation and participation, rather than written exams and quizzes. A final exam will also be administered at the end of the semester.
