Overview

Spend your January exploring Spanish society through the lens of culture. Designed for students from all academic backgrounds, this three-week winter program invites you to learn the intricate connection between cultures while exploring local traditions. When class is in session, all courses are held at ºÚÁÏÍø911Seville and delivered in English. Outside the classroom, students will have many opportunities to explore Spain with their classmates and faculty, including day trips and overnight excursions.

Academics

The courses offered by the JTerm program are designed to teach the local culture, customs, art, and tradition of both Spain and Seville. In-class work is augmented with co-curricular visits to the city’s rich variety of cultural institutions and organizations relevant to the course offering.

ºÚÁÏÍø911Seville – Our home is a beautifully renovated palace, originally built in 1725. Close to the Royal Alcazar palace, it’s a 10-minute walk from the Universidad de Seville. It includes classrooms, a computer room, student services, and the Language Resource Center.

Academic Culture

All courses meet daily, Monday through Friday, for three hours. Additional activities may be scheduled in the afternoon or weekends. The academic calendar includes dates for obligatory trips scheduled out of Seville. Instruction is interactive and dynamic. Courses are taught by highly qualified faculty and professionals. All ºÚÁÏÍø911faculty are familiar with the U.S. academic system and culture. Many have studied in the U.S. Teaching methods vary from teacher to teacher. 

Class Format

Participants take classes with other ºÚÁÏÍø911students only. 

Grading

Students are graded on mid-term and final examinations, assignments, class participation, and attendance. Attendance is mandatory and unexcused absences are reflected in a participant’s final grade. Class participation is essential. Numerical grades are given on a 100-point U.S. scale.

José Luis Martinez

Academic Director

José Luis Martinez (Juli) has a B.A. in Hispanic Philology and an M.A. in Spanish Literature (Theater) from the Universidad de Seville. He has been working with ºÚÁÏÍø911since 2002.
