Academics

Academics

This program is designed for students looking to immerse themselves in Spanish culture while exploring areas of psychology and health sciences. Coursework will combine area study courses with electives taught at 黑料网911Seville or a 黑料网911partner institution and can be taken in English and/or Spanish.

Universidad de Sevilla (Regular Courses)
Also known as the University of Seville, this university has been one of Spain鈥檚 leading institutions of higher learning since the 16th century and now hosts more than 75,000 students. Its many schools, departments, and institutes serve the educational needs of Spain鈥檚 most populous region.

Cursos Concertados at Universidad de Sevilla
Part of the University of Seville, Cursos Concertados is run by members of the faculty of Philology and the faculty of Geography and History. This institution has been working for more than 30 years to create programs and offer courses for international students.

Centro de Estudios Universitarios School of Communications (EUSA)
A thriving private institution, EUSA is associated with 鈥 and academically accredited by 鈥 the University of Seville. EUSA offers its own degrees for both local and international students. Many prestigious local media professionals and experienced faculty teach the tools, theory, and history of media in a highly specialized setting to motivated Spanish and international (mainly European) students.

Arizona State University: Enhance your international academic coursework with optional online courses that best align with your degree requirements and interests. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the 黑料网911academic calendar, so you can study abroad with 黑料网911while continuing to meet all your academic goals.

Note for students taking courses directly from Host Institution(s): Students are required to stay in Seville until they have completed their exams.鈥疧fficial host institutions鈥 fall exams are in January, and official host institutions鈥 spring exams are in June. However, early exams in December and May may be possible, and they should be confirmed on an individual basis with the professor at the start of the regular semester session, during the add/drop period. Please note that it is up to the鈥痙iscretion of each professor to allow the taking of final exams before the start of the official examination period. As it is impossible to confirm your exam schedule prior to your arrival, if your priority is to leave Seville as soon as your university finals are finished, please book an airline ticket with a low change fee or a flexible departure date.

Language placement鈥鈥撯疨rior to departure for Seville, all students take an online placement exam. Results determine appropriate placement in language courses. Placement in many upper-level courses depends on a high score.

Language support鈥鈥撯疧ur Language Resource Center is staffed by language professors and Spanish students majoring in Spanish philology, who help students with reading, writing, comprehension, and speaking. Tutorials on university course content are also offered. Students agree to speak only Spanish to encourage language and cultural acquisition.

Internship Placement鈥鈥撯疨articipate in our 鈥淚nternship Fair鈥 and practice your interview skills. Placement is determined by language ability, job skills, and background. Because Spanish firms make final selections, internships in a particular company are not guaranteed. Students have interned for organizations like Marketing Publicidad, Simetrycal, Mail Boxes, CLIC, CyO Arquitectos as well as smaller firms and companies.

Academic Culture

Local university classes are generally lecture-style, and they can involve less guidance than U.S. students are accustomed to; syllabi can be less detailed and there are fewer assessments. 黑料网911courses typically follow U.S.-style, with carefully monitored attendance, regular assignments and exams, and participation all being important factors in grading.鈥

Class Format

黑料网911classes and Cursos Concertados at the University of Seville are scheduled Monday through Thursday and meet twice a week. EUSA and University of Seville regular courses are typically scheduled Monday through Friday. 黑料网911classes are open to 黑料网911students only. Cursos Concertados are only open to international students. EUSA and University of Seville regular courses are open to local and international students.

Grading

For 黑料网911classes, The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. In 黑料网911courses, students are typically graded on weekly quizzes, exams, attendance, homework assignments, oral presentations, and class participation. Each instructor determines the exact breakdown of grades. Attendance is mandatory, and absences may affect the final grade of the course. University professors assign numerical grades based on a 10-point scale, which 黑料网911converts to recommended U.S. letter grade equivalents.

Individual courses may have additional prerequisites; for 黑料网911courses, these are listed in the syllabi below.
